- The Project -
Miniature Gothic Stained Glass Window
Resin Art with Crushed Opal

"It has always been a dream of mine to create a miniature gothic stained glass window using crushed opal to mimic the glass, but had never found the right time to attempt this. When approached by The Opal Dealer to create a project with them I instantly knew this was the right time to turn that dream idea into a reality." - Dominique, Liquid Eyes Art

- The Process -
Explained by Liquid Eyes Art

🏰 "First, I start by choosing my colors. I knew for this project I wanted to a rainbow color scheme for the upper window panels, with each panel being a different color. For the lower, bigger windows I chose to mix all the colors I used for this project." - @liquideyesart

🏰 "After choosing the colors, I mix a little bit of resin and use it to help carefully lay down all the crushed opals, being mindful to follow the lines in the mold as a guide for where to place them. Its best to do this part in stages to allow each layer of the opal-resin mix to harden because you don't want anything getting knocked out of place." - @liquideyesart

🏰 "Next, I brushed silver mica powder all throughout the mold while also trying to carefully avoid getting the pigment powder on the opals." - @liquideyesart

🏰 "Afterwards, I dumped clear resin to fill all the way to the top of the mold. I chose clear resin because I wanted the opals to mimic translucent stained glass that is typical with cathedral windows." - @liquideyesart

🏰 "After demolding, I used some gray acrylic paint to fill in the etched detailing of the "stone" part of the window. Instead of adding a top coat of resin to seal in the paint and the project, I left it as it was because I really like the roughness of the etched detailing. It gives the impression of stone. If you were to add a resin topcoat the rough detailing would diminish and become more smooth." - @liquideyesart

🏰 "And now the project is finished! I recommend viewing your miniature gothic stained glass window under different lighting conditions to appreciate how the opals react. It really does feel like you are looking through real stained glass." - @liquideyesart
