The Project

The Process

💫 "Lay out the opals in two sections of your bracelet measurer so each line matches. You are essentially making two bracelets but integrating them together with that double spacer as one bracelet. If you are making the opalescence double bracelet, there are 10 colors and you would need to use 3 of each color for each bracelet (6 total) and 10 double spacers. If you are making the rainbow double bracelet, you would lay out one of each color or a duplicate color if needed." - Bethany Wilson

💫 "Thread together your first bracelet. Make sure you are putting the spacer on the exact same way or you may have some upside down and you want them all in the same direction. For the opalescence, use a spacer after each color section (3 same color opals per section). For the rainbow, use a spacer after each color." - Bethany Wilson

💫 "Clamp each side of the first bracelet. Start on the second. As I thread each opal and spacer, I pull them off my board to make sure each opal matches up and that I don't forget to thread through the each spacer." - Bethany Wilson

💫 " The knot. Not going to lie, this is my least favorite part and its a pain! I usually like to hide my knots with a 6mm spacer on a normal bracelet. This spacer doesn't have much room to hide it. The larger one on the opalescence covers the knot better. You may have to play around a bit with the other to get the knot right in the spacer and to not show too much string. I cut mine as close as possible and than glue it. You have to tie each bracelet knots separate and there isn't much room. I get one side as close together as possible than do a single knot. Than i do the other side and do a single knot. I play with each side to make sure its as tight as possible than I knot two more times. I use a double .5mm string so my knot process may be different than those who use a single thicker string." - Bethany Wilson

💫 "there is your beautiful double opal bracelet! It absolutely glistens to no end in the sun and I receive so many compliments when I wear these! I have created many beautiful versions of these but these two are my favorite. " - Bethany Wilson

💎 Small & Large Metal Spacer/Separator with Cubic Zirconia
"In terms of the metal to use I personally like rhodium because of its resistance to tarnishing. I do use sterling silver as well but it needs maintenance so if I'm using a bunch of the spacers, I want something with less maintenance. Gold and gold plating are nice options as well. I'm more of a silver gal." - Bethany Wilson

How Long Have You Been Creating?

💫 "My whole life! I originally was going to go to college for photography and art but realized it may be hard to make a career out of that so instead I majored in business. I have a bachelors and masters in business administration. I've always kept doing art on the side. I really got into bracelet making when I went through a long period of being unemployed and it helped me make extra income." - Bethany Wilson

What Makes Creating Meaningful for You?

💫 "I first started out with photography and drawing and then went into painting. A few years ago, I started making my own bracelets. I try to make each bracelet like I'm forming a piece of art. Having an artistic background has helped me create one of a kind pieces. I also like to support small businesses around the world and particularly those artists who specialize in lamp work glass. I am most known for my centerpiece hearts. My goal is to always make a bracelet that is one of a kind...one you can't drop into a local store to buy." - Bethany Wilson

What Inspired You to Work with Lab Opal and When?

💫 "The shine! There is nothing better than going outside and watching the sun reflect against the opals. A few years working with lap opal. I love it to accent my centerpieces and give it a unique look." - Bethany Wilson

Where Do You Showcase Your Creations?

💫 "My Facebook Pourinspiration. I have also sold in the past at craft shows and on Etsy. I now typically only make a few pieces a month and I mainly sell directly to some local clients/friends who have been supportive and loyal to me during my whole bracelet making time!" - Bethany Wilson
