FAQ

Our Story:

Q. How did you get your start?
A.
The Opal Dealer was established in 2018 by Alex and Keely after discovering our passion for ring making. From moissanite to koa wood, a whole new world of possibilities was unlocked for our new inlay hobby. However, nothing quite caught our eye like Crushed Opal. This inspired us to open our own shop and share the joys of working with your hands with others!

Q. Where are you located?
A.
We are currently residing in the state of Florida. We originally started our business in the beautiful state of Colorado. However, we do not have a physical location for customers at this time.

We only sell synthetic lab-created opal. Our opal is made with silica and stabilized by polymer. Natural opal does not look as good crushed into small pieces. Read our descriptions to learn more about the process of lab-created opal.

Q. What can I use this Crushed Opal for?
A.
Our opal is a perfect inlay material for many types of jewelry including rings, bracelets, pens, and anything you can think to try! Crushed Opal is also great for Nail Art, Resin Work, Wood Working, and so much more.

Q. How much is 1 Gram of Crushed Opal?
A.
1 Gram of crushed opal roughly fills a space of 1.5" X 1.5" X 0.5-1mm. 1 Gram of Crushed Opal is equivalent to approximately 1/4 teaspoon.

Q. How many rings can I make with 1 Gram of Crushed Opal?
A.
With a standard 8mm Wide, 4mm Channel Ring Core you can expect 2+ rings per gram. Use a piece of paper under the ring when adding the inlay to catch any falling pieces and reuse!

Q. Should I choose Large Size, Medium Size, or Fine Size Crushed Opal?
A.
Large size is approximately 2mm to 3mm piece stones. This size is great for projects that require larger stone pieces for a more natural stone look.

Medium size is approximately 0.5mm - 2mm piece stones. When inlaying you will see more of the base color and easy to work with for most projects.

Fine size is approximately 0.5mm stones. When inlaying you will not see as much of the base color, but the play-of-color will be more intense. Fine size is great for completely filling an inlay space with no gaps.

Q. Do you sell samples?
A.
We are happy to offer a sample any of our Lab Created Crushed Opal Colors that are currently available. If you are interested in a sample of a specific color, let us know in the comments when you place your order and we are happy to give you a small sample for free. If you request multiple colors, we will ask for payment. Our Free Samples offer is only for Lab Created Crushed Opal. We do not offer samples for any other products at this time.

Q. How accurate are your pictures?
A.
We spend a good amount of time photographing and editing our products to get as close as possible to the natural color. Our Crushed Opal may look slightly different in person. Our photos are representing our crushed opal by what it will look like "wet" or when added to your project. Adding an adhesive, glue, resin, nail polish, and/or etc. to our opal brings it to life. Opal will look best in natural lighting or once added to your project. The crushing process may make the stone pieces appear less colorful to the naked human eye but do not be fouled this product comes to life once in use. Fine sized can look lighter in color due to the crushing process, but once again will brighten up with use.
